Here is a picture of the latest project I am working on cross-stitch wise. I haven't got a picture of the WIP yet but will try to get one and upload it to this post at a later date. Been going great guns on it as I've had a lot of time to kill while in hospital these last few weeks. Don't think it will be finished before I go home only because of course I ran out of some of the colours I need and have to contact Dimensions to get them. On my to-do list. So frustrating but that happened with the Memories sample I did for Mum.
The cross stitch is an adaption of a painting by Charles Wysocki. It's interesting because the painting is actually quite different which I supposed shouldn't have surprised me but it did.
UPDATE: here is a picture of my WIP
You can see I still have a chunk to fill in on the bottom right hand side . Then comes all the fine detail work of the backstitches etc to make facial features, whiskers stand out, fill in the book titles, use the gold threads for which there are a few areas I have to frog because I didn't realize I needed two strands of the gold thread plus 1 strand of the floss. So I didn't complete it in a five week stay in hospital nor in the subsequent three weeks that I've been home but I would say I've come a fair stint. And of course, the final mounted matted and framed piece will have it's very own pride of blog post when complete!
Here is what the original painting looks like:
Compared to the adaption for the cross-stitch. Interesting differences I guess that have to do with the different flexibilities of the mediums.
Here are some pictures of projects I've completed. I've been wanting to make a "brag" sheet for the projects I have finished for a long time, and since a good chunk of those are at Mum and Dad's I finally got pictures. There are still a few others, like the sampler I did for Bev, and the Beatrix Potter E I did for Emma that I need to get pictures of. All in good time. Until then here's a few for your viewing pleasure! If you wish to see larger versions - you can click on each of the pictures and the good ole Vox site will oblige!
This is a small card that came in one of my English Cross-Stitch magazines - probably Jane Greenoff - as an extra. All materials included. I did it and gave it to Dad one year because we always sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" every year in the choir at St. Judes in Brampton when we belonged. This year, Mum had hung it on the Christmas tree.
This pattern also came from one of my English Cross-Stitch magazines - and it definitely was the Jane Greenoff magazine. You can't see it, but I mucked up the floss colour on the right bottom flowerpot. Oh well, it just looks like it's dirt or water markings!!
This is a sampler that probably took me more then a year to complete. I remember working on it when I was at EQAO - I would stitch on the Go train coming home every night. I finally completed it, peter helped me mat and frame it, and I gave it to Mum for Christmas a couple of years ago.
And finally - one magazine I still buy every year is the Cross-Stitch Magazine Christmas ornament edition. I've copies for the last five years, give or take. The year I finished this ornament I also completed another which was the one I'm currently working on a second of this year and haven't completed yet. The uncompleted one is a snowman with a red cardinal and the saying "Star of Wonder" above his head. At any rate, the ornament pictured was finicky only because of the gold beads that are sewn on in a seemingly random fashion. It was another Christmas present to my Mum for the Christmas of 2001
So there you have it. A sampling of some of the cross-stitch I have completed.
Currently on the go is a Charles Wysocki adaption called Frederick the Literate. Which is a cat curled up in a bookshelf with books carrying titles such as "A Tale of Two Kitties". Not started is a beautiful pattern for cranes flying on a black background with a definite Asian theme to it. And I also have a kit with a Celestial theme. I tell you, Ebay rocks for buying the full kits with patterns, threads and all. All of the above in this paragraph came via that route! It's a good thing I don't have the time or energy to hang out on the computer much - else I would be worse in debt then I am!
Well enough of this. I suspect this will be my last post for the new year - so HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
